New Zealand Working Holiday (Part 16) : Enjoying Mount Maunganui Main Beach and the Mount Hot Salt Water Pools

Tauranga, Bay of Plenty is not only famous for its iconic Mauao, also known as The Mount (Mount Maunganui). It also has the best beach in New Zealand namely Main Beach and wonderful hot salt water pools to soak in for healing and relaxation. 🙂

Both the beach and hot salt water pools are located at the base of Mauao (Mount Maunganui). These two sites are frequently visited by the locals and tourists, especially during the weekends and can easily be reached by public transport.

Mount Maunganui Main Beach – The Best Spot to Swim, Surf & Sunbathe!

Mount Maunganui Main Beach is a beautiful, picturesque beach. It is in fact, the best spot for a picnic, a BBQ gathering, a stroll on the sand, a swim in the sea, surf among the waves and even sunbathe under the sun.

The beach sits at the base of Mauao, Mount Maunganui’s iconic mountain. The white sand beach stretches a distance of one kilometer along the coast of Bay of Plenty and to Moturiki (Leisure) Island. Many fun activities and events are held on the beach on a regular basis especially during summer.

Known as a surfer’s paradise, hundreds of people flock Main Beach to surf the waves or learn how to surf under the watchful eyes of experienced instructors. A friend of mine caught some fishes, crabs, and even pauas (abalone) off the waters of Moturiki (Leisure) Island and we had a feast. 😀

In a Nutshell

Good news, visitors and backpackers alike will find this tip useful: Simply enjoy a hot salt water soak on Tuesday nights after 6pm and get 20% off general admission or private pools entry rate! 😉 A bunch of us utilised the special deal and had a good soak in the public hot salt water pools.

After a good soaking session, we came out feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and reenergised. The nourishing hot salt water soak relaxed our sore muscles that we got from work (from constant checking and packing kiwifruits) and put us in a good mood.

Needless to say, we had a good night’s sleep after every soak and look forward to the next session. Be sure to give the Mount Hot Salt Water Pools a try when you are in Mount Maunganui/Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. 🙂
