To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world.― Dr. Seuss
And that is how my hubby and I feel about each other; with him being my super man, and me being his wonder woman literally and figuratively speaking. With that in mind, it is only befitting if we dress up as superheroes – Superman and Wonder Woman for our very late engagement photoshoot at Te Mata Peak, Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand. ☺
Growing up, my friends know me as “kecil-kecil cili padi” meaning small, but potent. It reflects my personality and abilities to do and achieve the impossible despite my petite demeanour, hence, Wonder Woman is the ideal character for that.
Both the amazing and talented actresses who played the character of Diana Prince in the 1975 and 2017 Wonder Woman films, namely Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot are my idols for women empowerment.
In addition, my hubby fondly refers me as his gorgeous wonder woman for several reasons. For a start, I always wonder where my things are as I seem to forget where I place them. Also, I never fail to amuse and amaze him with my antics and abilities;
- to make him fat 🤣🤣
- to organise and keep order in his life
- keep him out of trouble
- for everything else that I do be it for him or for myself
As for my then fiancé, now hubby Tony, well…he is my pillar of strength, literally and figuratively speaking. He is the one I go to, to open a stuck jar of sauce, lift heavy items and tackle any physically demanding tasks. 😉
He amazes me with his ability to pick 10 bins of oranges and/or apples by noon all by himself – an ability he mastered through over 28 years of fruit picking experience.
He also encourages and supports my dreams and goals in life and he never fails to make me smile and laugh with his quirky sense of humour and silly antics.
Behind the Scenes
As a couple, we got each other’s back. We support and complement each other with our personalities, strengths and weaknesses just like the dynamic comic book duo, Superman and Wonder Woman who are both a class of their own, but stand as equals together. 🤩
The engagement photoshoot was supposed to take place at an earlier date in spring, however, a setback in the production of the costumes delayed it. In case you are wondering, both the Superman and Wonder Woman costumes we wore for our engagement photoshoot were custom-made and purchased from AliExpress.
I did not engage a make-up artist for our engagement photoshoot because experience has taught me that I can do a much better job myself and save money in the process. Also, YouTube tutorials are a lifesaver!
Conquering Fears & Achieving New Heights in Life
As different as we are, we share the same fear – the fear of heights. We chose to have our engagement photoshoot done at Te Mata Peak, Hawke’s Bay in a way, to overcome our fear of heights. Being able to pose at the peak of the hill or even stand close to the edge of the cliff for a picture perfect photo gave us a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction no words could ever describe.
It was not an easy feat for strong winds were blowing at that time and temperatures were dropping as the sun set gracefully in the background. Walking on the slippery slopes of the hill in boots was a challenge too as we tried not to slip and fall in front of our photographer.
The view at Te Mata Peak on that significant day was breathtaking despite being shrouded by a blanket of fog. We watched the sky changed colours from bright yellow to subtle orange and crimson red as darkness set in. The city lights below lit up the darkness beautifully. It was an unforgettable, magical sight.
