If you’re looking for a cool place to stay in Krabi; think sleeping in spacious cubes with a spectacular rooftop sea view that’s cheap and located close to Aonang Beach, Mini Boxtel Aonang – backpackers hostel is the place I recommend. 😀
Mini Boxtel Aonang – Backpackers Hostel
If you have not known, I have a penchant to stay at unique and affordably priced accommodations. This time round, my research has brought me to a cool backpackers hostel that offers visitors a night’s stay in spacious, cube-like dormitory rooms in Krabi.
Do take note that the hostel’s reception, rooftop lounge and common area are located on the 3rd floor. There are no lifts to the top, so be prepared to climb a flight of stairs to reach the rooms and other areas of the hostel. Those with heavy luggage might want to think twice before choosing to stay at this hostel. 😛
What attracted me to Mini Boxtel Aonang besides its cubes is its open-air sea view rooftop lounge decorated with cosy bean bags and hammocks for guests to laze and relax during the day or night. The hostel’s strategic location is another bonus – it is a stone’s throw away from Aonang Beach, convenience stores, tourist information centre, tour agencies, restaurants, bars and shops.
Single Bed in Lady/Female Dormitory Room
I booked a night’s stay (single bed in female dormitory room) at Mini Boxtel Aonang via Booking.com prior to my arrival in Krabi. There is a mixed dormitory too. The hostel accepts walk-in bookings, but the beds are subjected to availability. It is best to book ahead especially during the high season to avoid disappointments.
It was THB350 a night with complimentary breakfast, free flow of coffee/tea all day and Wifi. Each guest is provided with a private locker, towel, blanket and pillow. The dormitory room has air-conditioning and fans. The shared bathroom/toilet with hot/cold shower is located next to the dormitory room, on the same floor.
At the dormitory room’s balcony, guests can hang their clothes to dry at the numbered clothes rack. The hostel is safe and secured with 24-hour CCTV surveillance and keycard access to the hostel and its dormitory rooms. The Aonang police station is just opposite the hostel. Pharmacy stores, McDonalds, 7-Eleven, Starbucks, Tourist Information Centre, money changer and various tour agencies are just down the road.
A Safe & Comfortable Night’s Sleep and Stay in Krabi
The individual cubes in the dormitory rooms are clean, cosy, spacious and comfortable – it is neither too small nor too big. In fact, I love my b04 cube at Mini Boxtel Aonang very much. In each cube, there is a lamp and a mini locker for us to store and charge our electronic gadgets with a peace of mind. 😀
Besides the mini locker, there are bigger private lockers for use too. The private locker is big enough for me to store my bags, shoes and more. Both the mini locker and private lockers can be locked using our own padlock. The individual curtains of the cubes provided enough privacy to each occupant.
Although the hostel is located by the main road, the noise from the street does not affect the rooms. It was peaceful and quiet at night and I had a good night’s sleep on the bed after several rounds of happy hour cocktails at a nearby bar. Thankfully, my dorm mates were considerate, responsible and nice guests who kept the room clean and quiet. It was a pleasant experience.
In A Nutshell
Breakfast was basic, but sufficient – consisting of cereals, toasts and free flow coffee/tea. The free Wifi was working quite well and the hostel staffs were friendly and helpful. Thanks to its convenient location, it is a short walk to Aonang beach and nearby places of attractions.
That night, I went for a full body massage at a nearby massage parlour, had my dinner at a restaurant and went sightseeing along Aonang beach before hanging out and sipping happy hour cocktails at a live band bar, then making my way back to the hostel with ease. If you do not fancy walking, tuk-tuks are aplenty, so you do not have to worry about getting from one place to another.
Overall, I have no complaints whatsoever for Mini Boxtel Aonang and enjoyed my short, but sweet stay there. 😀 The next day, I took the airport shuttle bus from the bus stop located in front of the hostel to Krabi International Airport (THB150 per way) and took a flight back home. That marked the end of my 4D/3N Backpacking Krabi – Relaxation & Solitude Getaway. I hope the information shared on my travel blog benefits every travellers out there. Till we meet again, Krabi. <3
