The highlight of my stay at Nomads Auckland Backpackers would be the time when I was given a complimentary room upgrade, moving up from the 12-bed mixed dormitory room to a private King room with ensuite, courtesy of the hostel’s general manager, Ms. Nadine T. 🙂
In my previous blog post here, I mentioned about the faulty door lock of our 12-bed mixed dormitory room located on the 4th floor. I was fortunate that my key card worked well and did not have any trouble getting into the room until an unfortunate incident happened during my second last night’s stay at the hostel.
Poor Customer Service & A Letter of Complaint
The faulty door lock problem was reported to the hostel’s management and swift action was taken to repair the room’s faulty lock. The hostel’s management took the effort to move some of the occupants in the room to another room located on the 2nd floor, sadly without leaving a notice or informing those affected by the move.
I was one of the occupants who were moved, but was unaware about it. I found out about it in the most rude and inconvenient way later that night when I came back from my outing. To cut the long story short, my key card stopped working, so I changed my key card and went up and down the building 3 freaking times (annoyed max!) before the staff at the reception rudely told me off that I went to the wrong floor and room. How is that even possible, I thought?! 🙁
Thus, I argued with her, telling her that I was staying on the 4th floor all these while and was unaware of the new room move, but she insisted and instructed that I move to the new room located on the 2nd floor in that instance! Talk about poor customer service! Feeling angry and dissatisfied, I lodged a complaint against the rude staff to Nomads Auckland Backpackers‘ general manager and the customer service manager for Nomads World.
The next day, Ms. Nadine personally met me and apologised for the inconvenience caused. Because of that, I was given a complimentary room upgrade for a day. It was a pleasant surprise and I was really grateful and happy with it.

A Comfortable Stay in the King Room with Ensuite
The King room at Nomads Auckland Backpackers is basically a private double room that comes with a king sized bed, ensuite bathroom, TV and couch. I was given the room numbered 602 located on the 6th floor of the building. The room was clean and spacious. I love the fact that the room has its own balcony, large windows and a superb view. 😀
Clean linen, soap bars and towels were provided. The room has a functional heater as well – a good facility to have during cold weather. The ensuite bathroom with hot/cold shower and toilet was equally clean and spacious. The water pressure was good too despite being on the 6th floor.
It was nice to sleep in a private room and not share the bathroom/toilet with other people. Needless to say, I had a good rest and a good night’s sleep that day. It was a good way to end my week long stay at Nomads Auckland Backpackers. I made my way to Tauranga the morning I checked-out from the hostel and will not hesitate to stay again at Nomads Auckland Backpackers in the future.
