It has been over a year now that I am in New Zealand and the thing I miss about Malaysia the most is its food. It is hard to cook Malaysian dishes here due to the lack of ingredients, and even harder to find a good Malaysian café or restaurant in town that serves authentic Malaysian food.
So, when I found out that there is a newly- opened Malaysian café in Napier, I vow to visit it someday. The opportunity came when a dear friend of mine was in town and we decided to meet up at the Malaysian café – Faith Hope Love Café & Restaurant to satisfy our cravings for good Malaysian food. 😀
Faith Hope Love Café & Restaurant, Napier
Faith Hope Love Café & Restaurant in Napier, Hawke’s Bay is managed by a petite and friendly Malaysian girl named Fong Yee from Pengerang, Johor. She came over to New Zealand to study and have stayed here since. 🙂
With a background in food and culinary, she opened Faith Hope Love Café & Restaurant in Napier, Hawke’s Bay earlier this year and offers both Malaysian and New Zealand cuisine and beverages. Their starters or bites and side dishes are priced at NZ$ 9.90 each, while the mains are priced from NZ$15.90 to NZ$26.90.
The café and restaurant is open 7 days a week, from 8.30am to 8.30pm. Their popular signature dishes include nasi lemak, chilli pan mee, chicken satay with authentic peanut sauce, Johor laksa, banana fritters, and more. <3

Malaysian Food & Hospitality at Its Best
It was such a pleasure to have met and caught up with my dear friend, Leka who came all the way from Malaysia to New Zealand for a short holiday all by herself. She arrived at the Malaysian café earlier and managed to have a lovely chat with Fong Yee.
My husband, Tony and I arrived later and together, we had a joyous gathering and makan-makan (eating) session at Faith Hope Love Café & Restaurant in Napier, Hawke’s Bay. Tony had the nasi lemak with chicken satay and peanut sauce while Leka and I had the chilli pan mee – it was delicious!
Fong Yee recommended us to try their peppermint and rose flavoured tea which complimented our dishes. We love the chicken satay so much that I ordered another serving. By the time we finished our food, our stomachs were full and we had to give desserts a miss – a reason to go back to the café in the near future. 😀

In a Nutshell
We are happy to have found a good Malaysian café to go to in Napier, Hawke’s Bay to satisfy our cravings for Malaysian food. Leka loved it so much that she went back there again the next day for breakfast and even tried their signature coffee.
We all agree that the price of the food is slightly pricey, but it is justified by the price of the ingredients available/sold here. The fact that the food is good makes up for its price. Overall, I would say that it is a good place to go to for authentic Malaysian food or simply just to lepak (hangout) with family and friends. 😀
